1. Researchers / Senior Researchers
Teams: Frontier Security | Compute Policy | International Strategy
IAPS is looking for intellectually rigorous individuals to join its growing research teams. These roles are ideal for candidates who are highly analytical, motivated by impact, and excited to work on some of the world’s most pressing challenges involving advanced AI.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on frontier AI systems, compute governance, and international AI cooperation.
- Produce written outputs such as white papers, memos, and policy briefings for diverse stakeholders.
- Support the development of strategic recommendations and institutional frameworks.
- Engage with stakeholders from governments, academia, industry, and civil society.
Eligibility and Requirements:
- Strong background in public policy, computer science, political science, economics, security studies, or related fields.
- Proven research skills—academic, policy, or technical—demonstrated through publications, reports, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to translate complex technical issues into actionable policy recommendations.
- For Senior Researcher roles: 4–8+ years of relevant work experience or advanced research credentials (e.g., PhD, think tank leadership, significant policy impact).
- Familiarity with emerging AI safety issues and interest in global AI governance frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
These roles are open to candidates from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds, including those with experience in government, think tanks, academia, or the private sector.
2. Senior Research Managers
Teams: Frontier Security | Compute Policy
The Senior Research Manager positions are designed for experienced professionals who can guide research strategy, mentor junior team members, and ensure the quality and impact of IAPS’s research outputs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead research planning and execution across high-priority domains such as AI capabilities governance and hardware policy.
- Manage and mentor a team of researchers, ensuring rigor and relevance in all outputs.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to set strategic priorities for research.
- Represent IAPS in high-level engagements with policymakers, international organizations, and research institutions.
Eligibility and Requirements:
- At least 6–10+ years of experience in research, policy analysis, or management roles.
- A demonstrated track record of research leadership, especially in policy-relevant or technical domains.
- Deep knowledge of at least one of the following: AI safety, international security, compute governance, or strategic technology policy.
- Strong project management and leadership capabilities.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
This role is ideal for professionals with deep expertise and a strategic mindset who are looking to contribute to the safe and effective governance of advanced AI.
3. (Senior) Programs Associate
IAPS is also seeking a (Senior) Programs Associate to support the operational and strategic functions of the institute. This is a key role for someone interested in working at the intersection of research, operations, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and support key organizational processes including events, partnerships, and communications.
- Assist in planning and executing programmatic activities such as workshops, conferences, and fellowships.
- Track projects, manage timelines, and ensure smooth cross-functional coordination.
- Contribute to grant writing, fundraising, and impact reporting efforts.
- Maintain operational infrastructure, including CRM tools and internal documentation.
Eligibility and Requirements:
- 2–6 years of experience in operations, program management, policy, or nonprofit administration.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work across teams and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent written communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- For Senior Programs Associate candidates: additional years of experience and demonstrated leadership in operational or programmatic functions.
