
The Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts at Princeton University invites applications for the 2026–2029 cohort of Associate Research Scholars. This distinguished fellowship provides early-career scholars the opportunity to pursue independent research, gain teaching experience, and engage with a dynamic interdisciplinary community. Fellows are appointed for three years and are hosted by the Council of the Humanities.

Fellowship Categories
The Society is offering positions in the following categories:
- Two or three Open Fellowships
Open to applicants in any discipline represented within the humanities or social sciences. - One Fellowship in Humanistic Studies
For scholars whose teaching and research are broadly interdisciplinary within the humanities.
- One Fellowship in East Asian Studies
For candidates specializing in East Asian history, literature, culture, or society.
Applicants may be considered for more than one category based on their research focus.
Role and Responsibilities
Fellows are expected to:
- Conduct independent research within their field.
- Teach one undergraduate course per semester during the first two years and one course in the third year.
- Participate actively in the Society’s interdisciplinary seminars and academic programming.
- Serve as part of the university’s intellectual community while holding the secondary rank of Lecturer when teaching.
Fellows are in residence on campus and receive access to Princeton’s extensive academic and professional resources.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold or expect to hold a Ph.D. awarded after January 1, 2024.
- Candidates without a Ph.D. at the time of application must have completed at least 50% of their dissertation.
- All Ph.D. requirements must be completed by June 15, 2026.
- Individuals with doctorates in Education, Law, or from Princeton University are not eligible.
- Candidates may apply only once to the Society of Fellows.

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: $101,000–$105,000 annually (subject to experience and qualifications).
