Responsibilities
Overarching Responsibility:
- To provide cutting edge financial analysis and reporting support to the organization; and safeguarding the assets of the organization by ensuring appropriate compliance with relevant PHN’s policies in its transactions.
Accounting & Reporting Functions:
Transactional:
- Lead the process to ensure that transactions are processed, recorded and reported in a timely manner in line as provided for in the organization’s accounting policies;
- Prompt and regular preparation of the bank reconciliations;
- Ensure appropriate and efficient filing and information retrieval system is maintained and regularly updated;
- Monitor all financial transactions and ensure that requests are promptly processed in line with the policy of the Alliance.
- Carry out relevant reconciliations and support required as may be requested from time to time by vendors and other external people,
- Provide accounting support to projects in the Alliance.
- Proper handling of the advance accounts of staff and ensuring that advance collection and retirements align with the approved policy.
- Ensure that confidential information, certificates, undeposited funds, other valuables, etc are safely kept away in the safe.
- Operate the credit card of the Alliance, based on authorization from the Finance and Administration Manager.
- Represent the Finance team/PHN in meetings with donors, vendors and other stakeholders as may be required from time to time.
Reporting:
- Provide necessary support at ensure a timely preparation of management accounts on monthly and quarterly basis, etc;
- Manage the grant accounts for the various grants received, ensuring adequate reporting is provided as agreed with the various donors.
- Regularly track the grant budgets, to determine burn rate, variances and appropriately advise management from time to time.
- Provide necessary reconciliations and support during statutory audits, tax audits and other related activities.
Compliance:
- Critically review all payment requests, and confirm that they are wholly, reasonably, exclusively and necessarily to be incurred for the benefits of the Alliance;
- Working with the procurement team, ensure that costs incurred by the Alliance are competitive; ensuring that appropriate procedure is followed for costs to be incurred on behalf of PSHAN
- Ensure that payment is processed for only approved transactions;
- Pursue compliance in activities of teams, procurement, audit, statutory deductions and remittance, etc. as provided for in the relevant policies and statutes.
- Ensure compliance with respect to prompt deduction and remittance of statutory deductions and remittance (PAYE, NHF, Pensions, etc);
- Ensure timely filling of financial statements with FIRS, CAC and other relevant bodies;
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (ACA/ACCA is a plus).
- 3–5 years’ experience in finance/accounting, preferably in non-profit or donor-funded projects.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and statutory compliance.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High integrity, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
