The School of Renewable Natural Resources at Louisiana State University Agricultural Center is seeking applicants for one Ph.D. assistantship or one M.S. assistantship starting as early as January or May 2026, depending on candidate availability.
The selected student will join a new lab group led by Dr. Kaelyn Fogelman, focused on understanding the physiological and energetic responses of aquatic organisms—particularly crayfish and unionid mussels—to environmental stressors.
Projects may include controlled experiments in laboratory aquaculture systems or outdoor experimental ponds, as well as field sampling trips across Louisiana and the southeastern U.S.
Students will gain experience in experimental design, live animal handling and husbandry (especially in crayfish aquaculture systems), laboratory analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in aquatic biology, zoology, fisheries, or wildlife management, or related field
- Research experience in laboratory or field settings

- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Valid U.S. driver’s license (or ability to obtain one within 60 days of start date)
- GPA of at least 3.0 (overall) or 3.5 (last 60 hours); GRE preferred but not required
