Duties primarily involve supporting the pharmacist in daily operations, including customer service, prescription processing, and inventory management. They handle administrative tasks, manage the cash register, and may assist with medication preparation under supervision. Essentially, they act as a liaison between patients and pharmacists, ensuring smooth pharmacy operations and excellent customer service.

Customer Service & Communication:
Greeting customers:
- Pharmacy assistants are often the first point of contact for customers entering the pharmacy.
Answering phones and emails:
- They handle basic inquiries, schedule appointments, and relay messages to the pharmacist.
Providing basic drug information:
- They can answer general questions about medications, but direct more complex inquiries to the pharmacist.
Processing prescriptions:
- They receive prescriptions, inputting patient and medication information into the computer system.Â
Medication Handling & Dispensing:
Assisting with dispensing:
They may measure, count, and package medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Labeling prescriptions:
- They prepare labels for medication containers, including patient information and dosage instructions.Â
Maintaining inventory:
- They monitor stock levels, rotate medications, and assist with ordering new supplies.Â
Ensuring accuracy:
- They verify prescription information and ensure proper packaging and labeling before dispensing.Â
Administrative & Other Tasks:
- Managing the cash register:Â They handle cash transactions, process payments, and reconcile daily sales.Â
- Maintaining patient records:Â They update patient information, file insurance claims, and manage other paperwork.Â
- Organizing and cleaning:Â They keep the pharmacy workspace tidy, organized, and well-stocked.Â
- Assisting with billing:Â They may help with preparing invoices and managing billing information.Â
- Compounding medications:Â In some cases, they may assist with preparing simple compounded medications under supervision.Â
